A new addition to StillPointe!

Kernel was born midday on November 26, 2011. He weighed approximately 20-25# at birth. Mark discovered him at about 2 hours old. He was already up and nursing and almost completely clean of membrane. We’re truly blessed that mom, Popcorn, is a great mom, has LOTS of milk and is protective, and only minimally aggressive. Since she’s from the Montana rescue, she is still pretty wild and has only in the last 6 months or so, learned to be haltered and will stay in the stall when humans are present. We could have a real challenge on our hands if she decided to go completely wild and not let us near the baby! She “air spit” at me when I handled him for initial exam, but tolerates my handling him now. She’s very watchful of every move I make, however!

She has come a LONG way to this wonderful moment at StillPointe! What a great story…

She has come a LONG way to this wonderful moment at StillPointe. Wild and yet… wow… so very trusting with you.

What gorgeous coloring! So glad all’s well, and that Popcorn is learning to tolerate you—you’ve done a miracle with them all!

Great to hear good news about that herd. Did you come to you pregnant? If so she did well to hang onto the cria with all that went on.

How awesome, I didn’t know you had a little one on the way. Congratulations!

She did indeed come to us pregnant. As so often with llamas, we couldn’t tell for sure until the last two weeks and even then one can never be positive until the cria pops out!
