Chewbacha
Hi! I’m Chewbacha… My name used to be “Candy Man” (yuk). Thank goodness the folks at StillPointe didn’t like it either. They think I look like that guy in Star Wars, so that’s my name!
I came from a farm where I was supposed to be the head greeter of the guests who came to stay in the bed and breakfast establishment. I had three girl llamas to keep me company plus two geldings. Sounds like llama heaven, right? Well, it was NOT.
The person who ran the place was someone who did not know how to handle animals and looked at us as though we were just “things” to be used for the business’ benefit. We were treated very badly. We got fed and all that, but when it came to appreciation of us as sentient beings, not so much.
Whenever we had to have toes trimmed, shearing done, etc., we were tied to a fence and forced to do what was required with no explanation or training. If we didn’t behave as expected we were beaten, kicked and generally mistreated. Needless to say, I was a real HANDFUL. I feared for my life so I spit, kicked and generally made life as miserable for the humans as I could. Not a pleasant existence for any of us.
Fortunately the people at StillPointe came to take care of our toes, shearing and such one spring and realized we were not in a good place. Within the space of a couple of years, the owners finally realized that there were too many of us and that they needed to cut down on the “livestock”. The two geldings went first. A year later they came to get me.
I am now living a happy, abuse-free life with the StillPointe herd. I’m still a bit of a handful, but my friend, volunteer Susan, is teaching me to be calm, not spit and to eventually allow my feet to be picked up so my nails can be trimmed. I actually enjoy feeling calmer and getting treats for my good behavior!
Thanks for adopting me and offering the support so that I and the rest of the llamas can continue to live at StillPointe and be treated the RIGHT way!
Thank you for rescuing me,
Chewy
